- ➤ Tallahassee police arrested 16 individuals on July 15 for alleged child sex crimes during a multi-agency operation—Operation Rabbit Hole targeted people using the internet to exploit children and arrange illegal meetings. WCTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Florida State University’s K-12 laboratory schools earned A ratings for the 2024-25 school year. In Tallahassee, FSUS improved its public school ranking from 23rd to 14th with a score rise from 884 to 939 while The Collegiate School at FSU Panama City doubled enrollment to maintain its A rating — showing strong academic performance across the system. - ➤ Brian Murphy, an FSU alumnus and CEO of ReliaQuest, was appointed by the Florida Board of Governors to the FSU Board of Trustees, replacing former Merrill Lynch executive John Thiel, effective immediately. Gov. DeSantis named Tim Weisheyer, owner of Dream Builders Realty, to the board (his term begins on Aug. 30 pending Florida Senate confirmation). Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida State University's Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship will host a bootcamp in Franklin County this August for entrepreneurs on August 8, 15, and 22 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve—participants need to apply online by Aug. 1. - ➤ This week, Florida Highway Patrol officers are partnering with neighboring states for Operation Southern Slow Down to reduce traffic violations and keep drivers safe during the busy summer travel period — they aim to curb speeding, texting, and aggressive driving. Captain Jason King said last year’s effort recorded 206 crashes including five with serious injuries, and his goal for the current program is zero fatal or serious injury crashes — officials expect the operation to improve road safety for all travelers.
