CRIME NEWS

  • An unidentified man has barricaded himself inside a Tallahassee hotel on the 3200 block of North Monroe Street—law enforcement evacuated all registered rooms on the floor and is negotiating with him as officials report no threat to the public.  WCTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • FAMU's new 700-bed residence hall Venom Landing is on track for an August opening as move-ins begin on August 20—tariffs slowed material shipments but did not delay construction for the fall semester starting August 25.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Renovations at Doak Campbell Stadium will be completed before Florida State's game against Alabama—ensuring the stadium is ready for the upcoming match.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Doak Campbell Stadium is nearing completion on its $265 million renovation for FSU’s season opener against Alabama on Aug. 30. The upgrades include new seating—climate-controlled club spaces, a wider concourse, and improved amenities—that will reduce capacity to about 70,000 while modernizing the historic venue.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee youth baseball teams are earning big wins this summer. Winthrop Park’s 12U All-Stars won the USSSA Rec World Series in Baton Rouge—Tallahassee-Leon Babe Ruth’s 14U All-Stars won the Southeast Regional and will play in the Babe Ruth World Series on Aug. 7 while Chaires Little League’s 11U All-Stars won the state championship and advanced to the Tournament of State Champions.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Chaires Little League’s 11u All-Star Team won the Little League State Championship Sunday in Brevard County by defeating Keystone — they are the first from Tallahassee to win the title and will travel to North Carolina for the Tournament of State Champions.  ABC 27
