ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters knocked down a late-night blaze that destroyed a two-story home and spread into nearby woods near Apalachee Parkway before 1 a.m. on July 23—crews worked around a floor collapse to halt the fire's progress—leaving no one injured. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Dale Lisa Flint, author of teen fantasy novel Finding Juliet from Turtle Cove Press, will hold a book launch and game titled 'Who Said It, Shakespeare, Tupac, or Taylor Swift?' from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26 (at My Favorite Books, 1410 Market St., Suite C2). She will lead an inclusive sonnet-writing workshop called 'Shakespeare’s Poetry: Mine Be Thy Love' from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, July 27 (at Common Ground Books, 1102 S. Adams St.). - ➤ Florida State University's Panhellenic Association (which runs 17 sororities) earned seven national awards at the National Panhellenic Conference, including the top honor, the 2024-25 Excellence Award. - ➤ FSU’s Board of Trustees will meet online today at 9:30 a.m. to vote on raising out-of-state fees by 10% for fall and to review a budget request that seeks $101 million for projects at MagLab and FSU Health. Tallahassee Democrat
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chief Judge Frank Allman reported Leon County Clerk Gwen Marshall to the Supreme Court for neglect of duty, pointing to filing errors and delayed docket entries that have caused problems with court records and safety risks. Marshall said her office is working hard to do its job—Chief Justice Carlos Muñiz has not yet acted—after receiving numerous complaints from judges and other court partners. Tallahassee Reports
- ➤ Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Christian Caban and reappointed Monesia Brown to the Tallahassee State College District Board of Trustees on July 22. Caban is a Leon County Commissioner and principal of Wolf Hospitality Group while Brown is vice president of government relations at North Highland—both appointments now await Florida Senate confirmation.
