  • On Saturday, Transformation Church hosted a community block party—thousands of free groceries were given out to local residents.  WCTV
  • On July 26, St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Tallahassee filled over 130 buckets with cleaning supplies for future flood victims—exceeding its goal of 100 buckets—in a statewide effort to gather 5,000 buckets amid rising flash flood warnings.  WFSU Public Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rainey Cawthon Distributors expanded its fuel storage to 90,000 gallons in a new facility near Four Points last week — doubling capacity so that first responders and hospitals can get fuel during storms. The fully generator-powered site will run 24 hours a day — ensuring local emergency services have a reliable fuel supply.  WFSU

CRIME NEWS

  • Former Tallahassee mayoral candidate Whitfield Leland III, 45, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for robbing a Dollar General store when he held the manager at gunpoint, stole $689 and a shirt, and fled before officers found him hiding in bushes — his 13 prior convictions qualified him as an armed career criminal —.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Over the weekend, Masons from Florida, Alabama and Georgia met at Jackson Lodge on Apalachee Parkway to mark a 200-year-old agreement that made this group Florida’s mother lodge. Georgia Masonic Grand Master Mark Bradley said the lodges will boost youth programs, including blood drives, to fight membership decline — members are now fewer than half of what they were 15 years ago.  WFSU

  • City leaders have agreed that the public should help decide the future of the TMH campus—its 75-acre property and key assets will be discussed in public hearings as the city continues private negotiations with FSU. Mayor Dailey said holding a hearing is the right thing to do while commissioners weigh whether one session or more is needed.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • Kyndal Ray Edwards began his cross-country walk from Jacksonville Beach in 2022 to raise awareness for mental health struggles and drug addiction—he reached the Florida Capitol today and raised over $16,000 for the nonprofit Addict II Athlete.  WCTV

  • Former Florida State golfer Lottie Woad won the Women’s Scottish Open in her pro debut on Sunday at Dundonald Links in Scotland by finishing 21-under with a three-shot lead and earning $300,000—she is the second player in three years to win her pro debut on the LPGA Tour.  WCTV
