- ➤ Florida's annual back-to-school sales tax holiday started Friday and will run through the end of August, giving families a break on clothes, school supplies and more while the new permanent measure removes the need for yearly legislative approval. WCTV

- ➤ On Friday morning, Rickards High School in Tallahassee renamed its gymnasium after Ernest "Rock" Jones, its first Black head basketball coach who led during desegregation. Jones passed away in January and his family said the honor means everything & shows his lasting impact on students over two decades. WCTV
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gadsden County received a 500,000 dollar EPA grant for a four year project to assess and plan the cleanup of old industrial sites to create new business opportunities. The grant will cover site assessments, cleanup plans and talks with local community members to guide the reuse of these areas. Tallahassee Democrat
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Tallahassee Police Department released its 2024 Annual Report, highlighting achievements such as hiring 77 new team members—39 new officers, reducing crime, speeding up forensic analysis from 10 months to just over 24 hours, clearing all homicide and bank robbery cases, and solving a 48-year-old cold case. City Manager Reese Goad and Chief Lawrence Revell praised the department for its strong leadership and dedication to the community. Tallahassee Reports

DeSantis ordered flags to be flown at half-staff yesterday (from sunrise to sunset at the State Capitol in Tallahassee and local buildings in Pinellas County) to honor professional wrestler Hulk Hogan who died on July 24 from a heart attack at age 71 (a longtime Florida resident and entertainment icon).
