- ➤ In Tallahassee, the Junior League hosted its 29th annual Kids’ Boutique event on Saturday for 150 children referred by school counselors based on need—families shopped for free clothes, shoes and underwear before attending a community fair with backpacks full of supplies and local resource booths. - ➤ Today, a local gymnastics and cheer facility is hosting a Back to School supply drive at Fred George Greenway Park from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.—providing free bookbags, pencils, markers, notebooks and fun activities for students in partnership with DJ Woadie and Trending Document Services. WCTV

- ➤ FAMU President Marva Johnson began her term on August 1 and pledged to listen to the university community—she vowed to protect FAMU's legacy and be active on campus. Former interim president Timothy Beard supported the transition by assisting with duties such as handing over the president’s house. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Sabal Palm Elementary hosted a drive that gave out 1,300 backpacks filled with school supplies to help kids get ready for classes starting Aug.12 — County Commissioner Christian Caban called the turnout incredible. Other back-to-school events planned in the county include a Shoes 4 Schools giveaway at 9 a.m. today and a Jumpstart-2-Success drive on Aug.9 that will offer free haircuts and health screenings. - ➤ Commissioner Ronterious Green was placed under review after the Ethics Commission found probable cause of a conflicting contractual relationship — Florida officials warned districts to deliver teacher raises amid unions reporting a state funding shortfall. Leon County will soon roll out a seminar to help seniors avoid online scams while a food pantry is asking for private donations as grocery prices rose. ABC 27
- ➤ Former U.S. Rep. Al Lawson from Tallahassee said he is thinking about running for governor in 2026 and will check polls and talk with party leaders before he decides by the end of November—he said many in Florida’s Black community are unhappy with the current candidate, David Jolly. - ➤ Godby High School football team will begin its 2025 season with new quarterback Landon Dougherty and returning star receiver Jamarin Simmons under second-year coach John Holston—who aims to lead the team to a state championship. - ➤ Florida A&M football began training camp on Friday, Aug. 1 and resumed practice on Saturday, Aug. 2. Head coach James Colzie III is evaluating six new transfers including quarterbacks RJ Johnson III and Jett Peddy, wide receiver Jamar Taylor Jr., linebacker Jason Riles Jr., cornerback Caleb McKenzie, and safety TeQuan Latimore—practice continues today as the team competes for spots on the roster.
