BUSINESS NEWS

  • Flea Market Tallahassee closed last month after 41 years of business when a January storm damaged many vendor spaces. Several vendors have moved to temporary sites at the Tool Library on Woodville Highway and the Tallahassee Urban League parking lot in Frenchtown — where executive director Curtis Taylor welcomed them as they search for a new permanent home.  WFSU Public Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands filled Tucker Civic Center for the 7th Annual Tallahassee Beer Festival on August 10 + national, local and home brewers provided over 400 unique fermentation varieties for guests.  WCTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • As Leon County students head back to class today, a few schools remain active construction sites—including Godby, Griffin and Nims middle schools. At Nims, most students have adjusted to the work as the media center doubles as a dining hall—and new facilities are set to be finished before year’s end.  WFSU Public Media
  • Gadsden County teachers will receive free school supplies before the new school year begins — officials say the program will help lower classroom costs. Additional details about supply types and distribution timing are expected soon.  WCTV

  • Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos overcame an early mistake on Aug. 10 by leading two scoring drives, which impressed coach Mike Norvell (who praised his growth and powerful play).   • FSU will unveil a $265 million renovation at Doak Campbell Stadium at its home opener against Alabama on August 30 at 3:30 p.m.—the upgrades include wider seats, premium seating, and modern amenities that reduce capacity to just under 70,000 while preserving the venue's history—fans eagerly await the new game-day experience.  Tallahassee Democrat
