ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 11, an armed services charter flight called for an emergency landing at Tallahassee International Airport due to hydraulic issues, which led to one runway closing and a flight being diverted to Texas where passengers had difficulty finding accommodations — officials later explained that construction and a disabled plane on a second runway contributed to the incident, though all 181 onboard landed safely. - ➤ FSU professor Lyndsay Jenkins was named a fellow of the American Psychological Association — a high honor that recognizes her work fighting bullying and helping youth in schools. - ➤ Gov. Ron DeSantis tapped state Sen. Jay Collins as lieutenant governor, filling a seat that had been empty since February—Collins, an Army veteran who overcame challenges, was sworn in at a ceremony attended by his family while the governor and his wife looked on. WFSU

- ➤ Citizens Property Insurance Corp added more than 600 policies last week to reach 783,344 policies from 782,728 the previous week—after pausing its depopulation program tied to hurricane season—and state leaders remain focused on managing risk exposure. Tallahassee Reports
- ➤ The My Safe Florida Home program reopened applications with funding for up to 33,000 eligible homeowners to upgrade their homes for hurricane safety—new rules now bar grant eligibility for those above moderate income and require low-income applicants to show proof of homeowners insurance. The program offers free home inspections and phased application windows for different age and income groups, and approved homeowners will be reimbursed after finished work passes inspection.
