CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A death investigation is underway at a rest area in Leon County after a man was found dead Sunday morning at 9:04 a.m.—law enforcement said foul play is not suspected. ABC 27
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Tallahassee's Fat Cat Cafe celebrated its 8th anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 23 when many local cat lovers joined the free event to meet and adopt felines; the non-profit cafe, started in 2017 by teacher Michelle Hartsfield, has placed 1,728 cats in homes — including a special-needs adult cat from Georgia. - ➤ The TSC Board elected Eugene Lamb, Jr. as the new board chair on August 18—he replaced Trustee Karen Moore while long-time Trustee Frank Messersmith was chosen as vice-chair. Lamb said he is committed to keeping TSC the college of choice for local students. Tallahassee Reports

- ➤ The Lincoln Trojans (1-0) defeated the Niceville Eagles (0-1) 36-29 on Aug 22 at Chiles High School to open their football season. New starting quarterback Taylor Jacobs and kicker Thomas Arnold helped secure the win with a game-sealing field goal in the final minutes. Tallahassee Reports
- ➤ On Aug 23, ten Leon County high schools ran the season's first cross country race at Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park in Tallahassee. Rickards’ runner Jamarin Lane finished sixth in the varsity boys race while Leon came fourth, and Leon’s Tatum Hendon finished sixth in the varsity girls race as her team placed third + the meet provided an early season test. - ➤ RJ Johnson III has been named starting quarterback by Florida A&M for the Orange Blossom Classic against Howard on Saturday, Aug. 30—he is a redshirt sophomore transfer who beat out four candidates and will lead the offense at Hard Rock Stadium at 4 p.m. on ESPNU. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ With the 2025 volleyball season approaching, the Timberwolves are set to challenge the reigning Chiles team after they brought the 2024 state title back to Tallahassee—Lindsay Smith and Eva Goodson will return while the loss of Holly Sanders and Kate Stewart leaves a key back row gap.
