CRIME NEWS

  • Trial testimony in Tallahassee continued as Donna Adelson, accused of conspiring to murder Dan Markel during a custody battle, was linked by witness accounts to emails, text messages, and bank records showing payments for hitmen—jurors have yet to reach a verdict.  WCTV
  • A 17-year-old was arrested outside Gene Cox Stadium on Aug. 22 after he aimed a handgun at another person during a high-turnout game between Rickards and Godby — authorities said police recovered two weapons, one modified to fire fully automatic, as two other students were arrested at area high schools the same day.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Wendi Adelson and Robert Adelson testified in their mother's murder trial in Tallahassee — Wendi denied any involvement in the alleged murder-for-hire of her ex-husband.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Florida State University and the Claude Pepper Foundation will honor Senator Claude Pepper’s 125th anniversary on Sept. 12 from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Broad Auditorium with a keynote by James C. Clark—additional presentations, a documentary screening and a buffet luncheon are planned, and RSVP is due by Sept. 1.  Florida State University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday afternoon, Betsy Couch from Knight Creative Communities Institute met with FDOT to discuss the removal of the colorful crosswalk art at local schools; the artwork reduced speeding on Dempsey Mayo Road by 23% since November 2023 and must be removed by Sept. 4 due to new state guidelines. Couch said she will ask local governments to replace the art with red brick pavers to help keep crossings safe—measures aimed at preserving benefits for students, families and seniors.  WCTV

HEALTH NEWS

  • Atlas, a 25-year-old mental health survivor from Tallahassee who once attempted suicide at 13, shares his ongoing struggle with chronic suicidality — he urges anyone in crisis to seek help before reaching a breaking point. Local mental health centers have reported rising crisis calls and more suicide incidents, with Tallahassee police having responded to 21 cases as of July 29.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Florida State’s football team will play eighth-ranked Alabama at Doak Campbell Stadium this Saturday. The Seminoles plan to bounce back last season—using a new offense led by quarterback Tommy Castellanos and tight end Randy Pittman.  WCTV
