  • Construction for a small grocery store starts this week in Griffin Heights to help end the food desert—The $1.3-million project at 1309 Alabama Street will be designed by a local firm to create a 2,500-square-foot store that fits the community style.  Tallahassee Democrat

CRIME NEWS

  • Legal analyst Joe Bodiford explained that the defense in Donna Adelson’s murder trial began calling witnesses—friends described her as hysterical after Dan Markel’s murder while the team introduced recorded calls, texts, and an emergency visa application to sway the jury.  WCTV
  • A Tallahassee Chuck E. Cheese mascot was arrested on July 23 for alleged credit card fraud after a local woman submitted proof of stolen charges—children at the restaurant were left startled.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florida CFO Blaise Ingoglia launched his 2026 re-election campaign after fining eight insurance companies $2 million for not meeting post-Hurricane promises — he plans to cancel property taxes on homesteaded properties by placing a constitutional amendment on the November ballot.  ABC 27
  • More than 60 Leon County Clerk of Court employees quit or were fired over a period of 15 months, causing processing delays, docket errors, and safety concerns — prompting Chief Judge Frank Allman to report Clerk Gwen Marshall Knight for neglect of duty to the Florida Supreme Court.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State men's basketball secured the nation's top-ranked 2026 recruiting class after landing 4-star wing Collin Paul from Fort Lauderdale on Sep. 3. With his commitment, the Seminoles became the only program to have three commitments in the cycle—showing strong early progress under coach Luke Loucks.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State will host East Texas A&M on Saturday at noon at Doak Campbell Stadium on the ACC Network—experts predict the Seminoles will win with a score of 42—13.  Tallahassee Democrat
