CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Tallahassee chapter of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, founded by Ron Patrick in 1997, has held benefit concerts to raise funds for local nonprofits and to bring healing after the mass shooting at FSU on April 17. The group will perform on Sept. 11 at Challenger Learning Center’s Fogg Planetarium at 7 p.m.—continuing its commitment to support local music and community efforts. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Bill McKibben launched his new book 'Here Comes the Sun: A Last Chance for the Climate and a Fresh Chance for Civilization' on Aug. 19, highlighting how solar power is now both cheap and available—he believes that taking action now can help slow climate harm. His ideas build to Sun Day on Sept. 21, which will focus on rallying community efforts for clean energy. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Florida State football posted 729 yards of total offense and scored 10 straight touchdowns in a 77-3 blowout of East Texas A&M on September 6 at Doak Campbell Stadium—tying a program record with a 74-point margin. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida State football honored freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard with sweatbands showing his number and a jersey at the pregame coin toss against East Texas A&M on Saturday, Sept. 6—this honor follows his being shot in the back of the head last Sunday while driving a family member home, and he is now monitored at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. - ➤ FSU defensive coordinator Tony White said he was moved by his first gameday at Doak Campbell Stadium on Aug. 31 when his team upset Alabama and stressed that miscommunications in the secondary needed fixing before their Sept. 6 game against East Texas A&M — he noted that despite strong physicality, there were still areas that required improvement.
