ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Tallahassee firefighters rescued two dogs from a house fire on Jay Bird Lane early Sunday at around 12:35 a.m.—all residents had already evacuated before crews spent hours putting out the flames.  ABC 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thousands of collectors and enthusiasts gathered at the North Florida Fairgrounds for the 850 Card Show held Saturday and Sunday—drawing a large crowd.  WCTV
  • Hundreds of motorcycle riders gathered on Sunday for the annual Ride to Remember to honor lives lost on 9/11 — a meaningful tribute that continues a long-standing tradition.  WCTV
  • Thousands of collectors attended the 850 Card Show at the North Florida Fairgrounds this past weekend to buy, sell, and trade vintage and modern cards. The show grew from 25 tables and 300 people in 2024 to 150 tables and 2,000 attendees — organizers say the next event is scheduled for December 20.  WCTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Pineview Elementary in Tallahassee, Title I schools in Leon County earned higher grades in the 2024–2025 school year because teachers and families helped students overcome early challenges—this result rebuts claims that the progress was due to bias.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • One Voice Florida urged residents to call on state legislators to demand the resignation of Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo after he eliminated vaccine mandates—even for children—sparking fears of a return of deadly diseases. The group also criticized the appointment of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services as a move that may shift public health policy from science to politics.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State is ranked No.9 in the Coaches Poll after moving up three spots as teams ahead lost, and the Seminoles will host Kent State at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in a sold-out game at Doak Campbell Stadium. The team will also induct seven hall-of-fame members— including Jameis Winston— during their Family Weekend.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State jumped three spots to No. 7 in the AP Top 25 poll after a bye week—setting up a home game against Kent State. The Seminoles will play at 3:30 p.m. on September 20.  WCTV
  • FSU football player Earl Little landed an NIL deal with Popeyes earlier this week and said he prefers chicken wings over other options—he made his choice during negotiations.  Tallahassee Democrat
