- ➤ Leon County is preparing to start a dispute resolution process with Tallahassee if the city approves its proposed 10% fire service fee increase today—county officials say the increase breaches their interlocal agreement. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow said the Capital City Country Club's board undervalued its 192-acre property by requesting a $1.5 million appraisal and a break from its 99-year lease, a move he called a fire sale trend of public assets. Commissioners will discuss the matter today and order another appraisal to compare values for the iconic golf course. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Construction resumed today at the former Washington Square site as Fairmont Tallahassee LLC works to restore Jefferson Street to meet requirements set by the city + Leon County amid over $461,000 in fines and a foreclosure lawsuit. The developer missed its deadlines on other streets, and officials expect a performance bond claim will be filed to secure the work. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said Monday that openly carrying guns is now the law of the state after an appeals court ruled that the long ban was unconstitutional—he sent guidance to law enforcement to not arrest law-abiding citizens and reminded them that rules still apply. - ➤ On Sept. 3, Tallahassee city commissioners unanimously delayed reviewing the 287(g) agreement and said they will only revisit it after a substantive court ruling in the South Miami lawsuit (the City Attorney’s Office noted the agenda will return once a ruling is made) (local protest over ICE actions has fueled the debate). - ➤ On Tuesday, the Ripple Project hosted an event at the Capitol steps where families dealing with childhood cancer learned of a new plan that will give $30 million to research over the next 5 years and set Gold Day for September 26. Katelyn Irwin started the project after her brother got sick and said the plan will help families and raise awareness — a step to support those in need. WCTV
- ➤ FAMU-FSU College of Engineering researchers have developed a new spinning bioreactor method that produces more tiny healing particles—extracellular vesicles—from lab-grown blood vessels to lower medicine costs. They will study how to scale up this production for treating age-related diseases in future tests. Florida State University
- ➤ Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Florida State University announced a deal yesterday to create a new academic health center—City Commission approval is needed before FSU leases city-owned assets to TMH under a 40-year plan while TMH keeps its management and staff. ABC 27

- ➤ On Sep. 12-13, the Chiles boys and girls cross country teams won the HOKA Nights of Thunder meet at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee with both teams earning gold for a second year, and standout runners like Joshua Hicks for the boys and Kaia Ables for the girls posting top finishes—among 10 Leon County schools competing. - ➤ Chiles High's volleyball team stays undefeated with 35 straight wins and defends its Class 5A state championship as it holds a No. 2 overall ranking—behind Calvary Christian—with players naming Gulf Breeze as a strong rival. - ➤ Florida State football defensive coordinator Tony White is reportedly a candidate for a head coaching job at UCLA, where he has strong ties—FSU head coach Mike Norvell said he supports his staff's career growth after recent coaching changes.
