CULTURE NEWS

  • The Tallahassee Film Festival will run Sept. 26-28 and show 80 films across several local venues. Filmmaker Robin Xander’s entry, 'The Python Hunt' — which chronicles the Florida Python Challenge and follows amateur snake hunters — will screen at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Challenger Learning Center IMAX Theater.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Chabad House will host High Holiday services for Rosh Hashana from Monday, Sept 22 to Wednesday, Sept 24 — with Shofar blasts, dinner and services at 224 Chapel Drive. Yom Kippur services will be held on Oct 1 to Oct 2 at the same place.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • A recent review of long-closed local restaurants sparked reader responses that added more names of cherished eateries + including Bamboo House and Loopers, showing how much these spots still matter to the community.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On September 20th, the Florida A&M University Board of Trustees elected a new chair and vice chair during its meeting—updating the university's leadership.  WCTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The City of Tallahassee received awards from the Florida Brownfields Association for cleaning up polluted sites and boosting community growth. Its Brownfields program has secured over $3 million in grants to turn underused land into assets—Cascades Park is one such success that spurred private investment.  WCTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sept 16, Leon County and CONA honored winners of the 44th Annual Neighborhood Recognition Program for community projects that improved local areas. The awards recognized groups from Avondale, Killearn and Highgrove and named Mr. Tommy Smith as Neighbor of the Year—showing the power of local service.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State football player Richie Leonard IV was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team on Sept 16 and he hosts youth football camps while supporting cancer patients inspired by his mother's fight—he took a mission trip to Argentina to help grow football and plans to visit the Moffitt Cancer Center after the bye week as his final season continues.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos said he feels all good after leaving Saturday’s 66-10 win against Kent State with a limp—his leg was caught under a Kent State lineman. Coach Mike Norvell said the injury is very manageable and Castellanos returned to the sidelines soon.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos limped off the field after his lower leg was caught under linemen during the game against Kent State—he had passed for 205 yards and run for two touchdowns before being replaced by freshman Kevin Sperry.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State hosted Kent State at Doak Campbell Stadium yesterday in Week 4 after agreeing in 2023 to a buy game; FSU owed Kent State $1.2 million—payment due by Feb. 15.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU football did not play in Week 4 and will return on Sept 27 when the Rattlers face Alabama State at 3 p.m. on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium—following a 1-2 start.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On September 20, No. 9 Florida State hosted Kent State at Doak Campbell Stadium at 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network—after two wins, the Seminoles will travel to UVA on Friday for their first ACC road game.  Tallahassee Democrat
