  • Sonny’s BBQ in Northeast Tallahassee runs a weekly food drive at Gretchen Everhart School to deliver dry and canned goods to five local student households. Students in the school's transition program sort donations—gaining job skills while fighting food insecurity.  ABC 27

  • The James Moore company opened its new 12,000 square foot Tallahassee headquarters on Centre Pointe Boulevard on October 2, with nearly 50 staff serving local clients from businesses, governments, and non-profits.   • A local high school student from Tallahassee will travel to Texas next week to compete for the Miss Juneteenth USA crown—she hopes to win the national title.  WCTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. DeSantis urged lawmakers to schedule a vote on a property tax cut that voters will approve next year and warned he might call a special session if the measure stalls—critics believe the change could limit local services.  WFSU Public Media
  • Prosecutors in Tallahassee will convene a grand jury to probe the Hope Florida Foundation controversy beginning the week of Oct. 13—sources said some witnesses include members of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ staff.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • Planned Parenthood in Florida is set to offer free breast exams and cervical screenings on Monday, Oct. 6 in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month—this event will take place at 13 centers including Tallahassee.   • Today, the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes get ready to face the No. 18 Florida State Seminoles in the 70th meeting of their long rivalry as Miami looks to extend its undefeated season led by running back Mark Fletcher Jr.—the game will test Miami’s strong offense and defense against Florida State’s powerful run game and key matchups like the duel between cornerback OJ Frederique Jr. and receiver Duce Robinson.   • Florida High beat Chiles 40-38 in a close Week 7 FHSAA football game at Mike Hickman Stadium on Friday, Oct. 3, as a tipped field goal kept the winning points for the Seminoles. Jaylan Lurry caught three touchdown passes and both teams said the contest was crazy while Florida High now prepares to play the Gadsden County Jaguars next Friday at 7 p.m.  Tallahassee Democrat
