Good morning, Tallahassee. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 6th of October.

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park covers over 6,000 acres of wild land just south of Tallahassee and lets visitors see clear waters, old buildings, and many animals like manatees, birds, and alligators. • City and county commissioners approved new property tax rates for 2026 that will raise bills because property values increased nearly 8% last year—city fees for fire services, trash, cemetery plots, and permits are also set to rise while county fees will generate over $15 million in extra revenue.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On September 17, the Tallahassee City Commission voted three to two to end a long-time fire service deal with Leon County that covers areas outside Tallahassee and does not affect fire services for FSU. The city will complete the change by 2028 while Leon County studies new options—local leaders continue to debate fee increases and funding control.  FSU News
