CULTURE NEWS

  • Octronica 2 will take place at RealCoolTime Underground — 1733 N Monroe St on Oct. 17 from 8-10 p.m. and will feature PixelDeath64, Don't Tell a Soul, Burlap Productions, Rexford Tugwell and Nathan Pugh with a suggested cover of $3 on a pay-what-you-can basis.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Leon County library system now offers free library cards to FSU students so they can use quiet study spaces, access eBooks and audiobooks online, and join local events. Students can borrow not only books but also items like projectors to help with workshops —supporting the library's role as a useful community resource.  FSU News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County commissioner Rick Minor said Buc-ees plans in Leon County are nearly complete—work will break ground in the first quarter next year.  WCTV
  • Hundreds gathered at Tom Brown Park Saturday for the 28th annual Volunteer Fire Truck Round-Up, hosted by Leon County Government to honor volunteer firefighters from nearby communities — the event also offered family activities and volunteer recruitment opportunities.  WCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • After Florida State lost to Pittsburgh on Oct. 11, coach Mike Norvell faces pressure as his record falls and his future remains uncertain. The school owes him nearly $58.7 million if they fire him (based on 85% of his base salary), a cost that makes his buyout one of the highest in college football.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida A&M University has climbed national rankings while its athletic programs still face high costs for travel, equipment, and uniforms, so the Non-Revenue Producing Sports Athletic Club is launching a game day campaign to ask 5,000 football fans and local alumni for donations — aiming to raise at least $100,000 immediately.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU redshirt freshman point guard Xavier Osceola will be the first Seminole Tribe member to play Division I basketball—marking a historic milestone for his tribe and team. He said he is proud to honor his family legacy and inspire Native kids as he faces faster competition with his squad.  FSU News
  • The Florida A&M Rattlers will play the North Carolina Central Eagles at Bragg Memorial Stadium at 3 p.m. Saturday—coming off a 14 to 42 loss to Alabama State on September 27—as they seek to improve their 1 to 3 season record.  WCTV
  • Lincoln High School wide receiver Maliek Denmark overcame homelessness and financial struggles to earn a 3.9 GPA and attract Division I football offers. He said his hardships drive him to work harder—he aims to mentor youth and choose a college that develops him both academically and athletically.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State football lost its third straight game on Oct. 11 when Pitt edged them 34 to 31—dropping the season record to three wins and three losses after a strong start. Coach Norvell said defensive miscommunication and struggles defending the middle led to frustration—pressing the team to fix issues quickly.  Tallahassee Democrat
