CULTURE NEWS

  • Florida State University’s Flying High Circus will present its 15th annual Halloween Show Series starting Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. with family-friendly performances featuring flying skeletons and dancing zombies under the new tent—rebuilt after tornado damage, while tickets cost $25 to $17 and students with FSU IDs enter free.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU students both praised and critiqued Paul Thomas Anderson's film 'One Battle After Another' after its first trailer was released on March 27; the movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Bob Ferguson and shows revolutionary themes (special screening four days before nationwide release) at the Askew Student Life Center. Critics said the film does not fully explain the deep reasons behind its political ideas and character portrayals.  FSU News

  • FAMU fans filled Bragg Stadium today for the home game against North Carolina Central and kicked off Homecoming week with orange and green flags flying high—one Tallahassee resident said the celebration honors the school’s history and culture ahead of official festivities starting Sunday.  WCTV
  • This October, Animal Tales Tallahassee will bring wildlife education directly to schools and community centers with its Art of the Wild program—offering hands-on encounters with animals like lemurs and wallabies. Lead Naturalist Nicholas Horton, who founded the branch in Tallahassee, said themed Halloween programs and other events will help inspire respect for nature and build conservation efforts.  Tallahassee Democrat

  • Tallahassee officials said work is progressing on the new senior center in the canopy development+ they expect construction to continue until the project is completed.  WCTV
  • FAMU’s board unanimously asked Tallahassee to delay the public hearing set for October 22 so it can negotiate terms for joining the healthcare partnership between Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare and Florida State University—seeking three seats on the governing board and clinical training placements for its students.  WFSU Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Sunday, Shavonne McCants hosted the first Pink Pancakes for a Purpose event in Tallahassee to raise funds for Making Strides of the Big Bend + honor her late mother who died of breast cancer. The free event served more than 300 pink pancakes and marked the local Rotary Club’s first breast cancer awareness effort.  WCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State lost its third straight ACC game on Oct. 11 when it fell to Pitt — and quarterback Tommy Castellanos said he is ready to play despite recent health concerns. The team, which is on an eight-game ACC losing streak, will travel to Stanford at 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 18.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Barineau Heating & Air Friday Night Rivals returns this Friday when the Maclay Marauders will face the North Florida Christian Eagles on the CW at 7 p.m.—the game is presented by Shore Up Foundation Repair and is Tallahassee’s only local live high school football matchup.  FOX 49
  • Florida State lost 34-31 to Pitt on Saturday at Doak Campbell Stadium, falling to 3-3 and extending a three-game losing streak. Former player Bryant McFadden criticized the defense—calling it undisciplined and unprepared—that failed to stop Pitt's key plays.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • The Savannah Bananas will bring their season-opening Banana Ball games to Tallahassee in February 2026 with two nights at Dick Howser Stadium and one at Doak Campbell Stadium—this game will mark the first non-football event at the renovated venue. Fans must enter the ticket lottery before it closes on Oct. 31.  FSU News
  • On October 10, the Lincoln Trojans beat the Chiles Timberwolves 42—28 to win the district championship. The Trojans secured the win with key plays from quarterback Taylor Jacobs Jr. and wide receiver Maliek Denmark.  Tallahassee Reports
  • FSU lost its third straight ACC game when they were edged 34-31 by Pittsburgh at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday. FSU now sits winless in the conference—Coach Mike Norvell said the team must turn things around ahead of five more ACC games.  WFSU
