- ➤ On Oct.12, Tallahassee held its revived Longest Table event along Duval Street—about 1,000 locals gathered to share food and civil conversation after the pandemic pause. City officials said the event, founded by former Mayor Andrew Gillum, will continue to help ease political divisions and promote honest dialogue. WFSU
- ➤ At Tom Brown Park on Saturday, Leon County held its annual Fire Truck Roundup where six volunteer fire units showcased their tools and talents to hundreds of local residents. - ➤ On Oct. 8, students at ClubDownunder held a Halloween spelling bee where they spelled themed words for a chance to win a plush goblin—an event that gave them a welcome break from exam stress. - ➤ Students at Chiles High School gained hands-on welding skills when school leaders cut the ribbon on a new facility Tuesday, letting 51 students learn with instructors from Lively Technical College. The project was funded by a $631,000 grant from the Florida Department of Education—helping students speed up their career training. WCTV
- ➤ Florida State University Jim Moran College of Entrepreneurship ranked third among public schools on Niche’s 2026 Best Colleges with Entrepreneurship Degrees — a drop from its top ranking last year by The Princeton Review. - ➤ Florida Division of Emergency Management director Kevin Guthrie told senators Tuesday that his agency is recovering from past hurricanes and is ready for potential new storms by streamlining its systems—plans include moving into a new emergency operations center by spring. - ➤ SWAC denied FAMU's appeal to lift band announcer Joe Bullard's two-game suspension, so he will miss the Oct. 18 homecoming football game—a setback in his 50-year milestone with the marching band.
