CULTURE NEWS

  • FSU Flying High Circus came back on Oct. 17 for its Halloween show series and many students and families watched acts like acrobats and themed performances under a new tent—this return followed a seventeen month rebuild after three tornadoes tore down the old tent on May 10.  FSU News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State University will host its annual homecoming events titled Legacy in Every Frame from Oct 24 through Nov 2 with activities such as a pep rally, parade and football game where the Homecoming Chief and Princess will be revealed—bringing alumni, students and friends together to honor Seminole traditions and celebrate alumni achievements.  Florida State University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Hurricane Center says Invest 98L in the eastern Caribbean is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days as it slows and warm waters aid its growth. Florida residents are advised to monitor updates closely because the system’s track remains uncertain—its path could change and bring impacts later.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leon County crews removed fencing and walls at Washington Square starting Monday night, forcing road closures on South Calhoun, South Gadsden and East Jefferson Streets from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday—lane closures for milling and resurfacing will start Thursday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly until late November.  WCTV
  • Florida State University kept its colorful crosswalks on campus because the school did not receive an FDOT order to cover them, even though the agency required all painted crosswalks statewide be removed by Sept. 4 to avoid funding cuts. Other parts of Tallahassee saw their murals removed as local officials followed the mandate—making FSU a rare exception to the rule.  FSU News
  • Leon County will discuss a plan to develop 2000 acres north of Lake Jackson while making lake protection a top priority—county officials said the project can only move forward if both the City and County agree and planning staff provide an update in November—environmentalists remain concerned about the impact.  ABC 27

  • FAMU football coach James Colzie III said his team must improve rushing and defense as they prepare to face Southern in a critical SWAC matchup on Saturday, Oct. 25 at A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge — a win that would keep their title and postseason hopes alive. The Rattlers ended a two-game losing streak with a 33 to 28 win over Alcorn State and plan to build on that momentum.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State's Vice President Michael Alford said the school fully backs coach Mike Norvell as the team works to rebound after a loss to Sanford during a four-game losing streak. He stated his support amid rumors that Norvell might be let go.  WCTV
  • Georgia Tech leads the ACC power rankings after a chaotic week of football—Louisville upset Miami and Florida State hit a new low. Updated rankings show Stanford's win over FSU and shifts for teams like Virginia, Pitt, and SMU, reflecting a turbulent conference season.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FSU star Makayla Timpson began her rookie season with the Indiana Fever and proved to be a strong defender on a young team. She played limited minutes and scored 14 points in a game on July 27—her energy and readiness helped the team reach the WNBA semifinals after winning the Commissioner’s Cup.  FSU News
