EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Florida A&M University and Tallahassee State College now have seats at the table in talks for the FSU and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare merger to create an academic health center. The memorandums will be signed soon and include both schools in key committees — a move designed to boost academic programs and research. WCTV
- ➤ Today, Nims Middle School held a ribbon-cutting to open its renovated cafeteria and performing arts center in a 22,000 square foot space—complete with new floors, updated technology, and outdoor seating—and is part of a series of school upgrades that includes an e-sports lab and updated gym facilities. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tropical Storm Melissa is expected to become a hurricane today — forecasters say the storm will bring heavy rain and flooding to parts of Hispaniola and Jamaica through the weekend. Officials add that its track remains uncertain and Florida may be impacted if the storm shifts westward. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ Florida lawmakers filed the CROWN Act on Tuesday to ban hair discrimination in schools that receive state money, stopping rules that treat students unfairly for wearing braids, twists, or locs—lawmakers say the law will let every student learn without worry. WCTV
- ➤ The customs facility at Tallahassee International Airport is set to be substantially complete in early 2026. The $28 million project, which began in May 2022, will house U.S. Customs and Border Protection equipment—its opening date will be confirmed after final CBP checks. WCTV

- ➤ Teddy Swims will headline TMH Golden Gala 2026 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center on April 23 at 5:30 p.m.—the private concert and dinner will raise funds to expand behavioral health services in partnership with Apalachee Center. - ➤ Crews began removing fencing and walls at Washington Square Monday night to clean up the stalled project behind the Leon County Courthouse. The county forced Fairmont Development to secure a performance bond from an insurance company—road closures on South Calhoun, South Gadsden and East Jefferson Streets will limit traffic until late November. - ➤ Local high school football teams in North Florida and South Georgia are playing key games this week and next to secure playoff spots as the regular season nears its end. Teams from the FHSAA, GHSA, SSAA and GIAA are aiming to earn home game advantages and improve their rankings—each win is critical. WCTV
- ➤ The Florida High volleyball team earned a ticket to Saturday’s 3A regional semifinals with a 3-0 win over Episcopal — Tuesday’s playoffs also saw Community Christian and Wakulla Christian lose 3-0 to Seven Rivers and Harvest Community. WCTV
- ➤ Florida State head coach Mike Norvell said he will give everything he has to turn the football program around after four losses dropped the team to a 3-4 record (he noted the bye week offers a chance to reset before the Wake Forest game). Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ FAMU men’s basketball beat Edward Waters 100-54 in an exhibition game on Tuesday night at the Lawson Center—eight Rattlers scored in double figures.
