- ➤ Community groups arranged safe childcare for nearly 400 children after five Head Start centers closed due to the government shutdown. The Urban League partnered with certified organizations such as Second Harvest and local churches—providing care from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until the shutdown ends. ABC 27
- ➤ FSU’s Kappa Kappa Gamma and Beta Theta Pi hosted their second annual Talloween Terror Night on Oct. 20-21 to raise funds for charity, selling over 800 tickets and netting more than $16,000 in proceeds. The event featured a haunted house, carnival games, and food vendors—supporting NAMI-Tallahassee and the Abuelos Foundation—while the chapters celebrated a successful philanthropic effort. FSU News

- ➤ The City of Tallahassee will name Alabama Street as Clausell Family Memorial Way on Wednesday, Oct. 29 to honor the late Reverend Dr. James Aaron Clausell and Reverend Dr. Bernyce Hall Clausell—a couple known for their work in Griffin Heights; the city will unveil the sign (10 a.m.) at (Lawrence-Gregory Community Center). - ➤ Seventh Avenue in Tallahassee will be repaved starting Monday as part of the city’s last phase of a utility improvements project (with crews working from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday along the stretch from Centerville Road to Duval Street). The work is expected to be completed by early 2026 after earlier upgrades began in 2023. WCTV

- ➤ Florida State baseball beat UAB by a total of 16-5 in two fall exhibition games at Dick Howser Stadium on Oct. 25. Coach Link Jarrett, making his first dugout appearance since his new contract was signed to keep him through 2031 and boost his salary to over $2 million, said he is proud of the program—his words set a positive tone for the upcoming season. - ➤ Florida A&M won its SWAC game against Southern 43-35 with running back Jamal Hailey rushing for a season high 157 yards and scoring three touchdowns—sparked by three fourth-quarter drives—that gave the team its second conference win. - ➤ Several high school volleyball teams played in state playoffs on Saturday with winners advancing to Regional Finals and the Elite Eight. In the Rural division, Liberty County swept Franklin County & will face Blountstown Tuesday while Branford, after sweeping Aucilla Christian, will face Union County, and in 5A, Chiles advanced and will host Beachside Wednesday.
