- ➤ At the Leon County School Board meeting on Tuesday, Florida Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas criticized low teacher pay and high executive raises, saying state funds should support classroom improvements. - ➤ Ron Saff, an allergist, and Don Axelrad, a retired professor, are warning Woodville residents that PFAS—'forever chemicals' linked to cancer and thyroid disease—have been detected in private wells that lack federal oversight, and state and county health officials have tested water samples with results pending. - ➤ Florida State women's basketball beat Tampa in an exhibition game on October 28 at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. Transfer junior center Pania Davis scored 17 points and blocked 3 shots — her strong play has coach Brooke Wyckoff optimistic about the season as the team prepares to open regular play on November 3.
