COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lighthouse of the Big Bend will hold a White Cane Safety Day walk on November 8 at 10 a.m. at Leon County LeRoy Collins Public Library — the event supports people who are legally blind across several local counties.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • ABC 27 and Second Harvest have organized the 12th Annual Turkey Drive to collect 1,000 frozen turkeys and $50,000 in donations to help feed local families; online donations began November 3rd and turkey drop-offs will run November 20th from 6:00 a.m.—6:00 p.m. at Bannerman Crossing and Ponce de Leon Park with Thanksgiving Distribution scheduled for November 22nd.  ABC 27

CULTURE NEWS

  • Marvin Cook’s children’s book They All Called Him Pinky won a Royal Palm Literary Award during Oct. 17-19 for telling the story of a lone flamingo at St. Marks during Hurricane Michael; Rhett DeVane also won top prizes for her books—The Dragon Box and Ditch Weed—which honor local talent.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee students and locals celebrated Talloween with events including haunted houses, live music at clubs—venues like Clyde’s and Costello’s hosted parties that drew attendees from FSU, UF and UM. Many planned creative costumes and visited community gatherings during a week of festivities that highlighted the city’s unique Halloween spirit.  FSU News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tallahassee State College and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College were named among the nation’s top 200 community colleges by the Aspen Institute for strong student outcomes—both colleges will be eligible for a $1 million Aspen Prize with the winner announced in Spring 2027.  WCTV
  • FSU announced Christian Velazquez as the 2025 Homecoming Chief+ and Delaney Lento as Homecoming Princess during the game against Wake Forest. Both students from FSU's College of Social Science and Public Policy were crowned by members of the Seminole Tribe of Florida+ as part of a long-held tradition.  FSU News

HEALTH NEWS

  • By October 30th, 27 people were infected and six died in a listeria outbreak linked to recalled pasta meals sold at stores such as Publix, Walmart, and Trader Joe's. Health officials warned people not to eat the affected meals—urging consumers to return or discard any recalled products.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lincoln High boys' golf team heads to the Class 2A Regional Tournament today in Fleming Island after earning an at-large bid by placing third in their district — three players have averaged under par for nine holes this season.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • FAMU men's basketball head coach Charlie Ward made his regular-season debut on Monday, Nov 3 in a non-conference game against USF—he led his team in two preseason contests. The Rattlers will host Kennesaw State on Saturday, Nov 8 in their home opener under his new leadership.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Duce Robinson caught five passes for 148 yards and one touchdown as FSU beat Wake Forest 42 to 7, and he is on track to be the first receiver with 1,000 yards since 2019. He needs 311 yards in the final four games (making him the 11th in school history) to secure the record.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State football released its depth chart ahead of the Clemson game on Nov. 8 at Memorial Stadium in Clemson — Samuel Singleton Jr is named a co-starter with Gavin Sawchuk and linebacker Stefon Thompson returns from injury to boost the team.  Tallahassee Democrat
