COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Annie Johnson is asking for donations and volunteers to help feed 2,000 people at her annual Thanksgiving dinner in Northwest Tallahassee as donations run low and demand rises. The event will be held on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 625 W 4th Avenue — without more help, some families may be turned away.  ABC 27
  • Tallahassee’s WINTERFALL charity event will be held Thursday at Esposito’s Garden Center to benefit ECHO, an organization that helps people become self-sufficient through food, clothing, and life skills classes—Executive Director Freddy Branham anticipates reaching a funding goal similar to last year's $125,000.  WFSU

CULTURE NEWS

  • Earth, Wind & Fire will perform at the Word of South festival on April 24 at the Adderley Amphitheater next year with gates opening at 6 p.m. and the show starting at 8:30 p.m.; Toto will perform on Feb. 26 at the same venue while tickets for both concerts go on sale at 10 a.m. on Nov. 21.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Researchers at FAMU-FSU College of Engineering partnered with the Center for Advanced Power Systems and Advanced Conductor Technologies to develop a superconducting wire design that uses multiple strands—reducing defects and lowering costs for electric motors and other applications.  Florida State University
  • Tyler Fulton, a computer technician at Roberts Elementary, was named the School Related Employee of the Year for Leon County Schools and was praised by colleagues for his extra efforts. He supported over 55 faculty members and 850 students while also running the school’s morning news show—making him a role model for the campus community.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee State College was ranked the best value college in Florida for 2026 by Research.com—earning recognition for its strong transfer pathways and affordable tuition—and was named the second-best value college in the nation. The ranking used data from several reputable sources to assess quality, affordability, and student experience.  Tallahassee Reports

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nearly 200 bear hunt opponents marched from the Historic Florida Capitol to the Fish and Wildlife Commission headquarters on Nov 17 — they asked Gov. DeSantis to stop a December hunt that critics say lacks scientific support. A court hearing on an injunction from Bear Warriors United is set for Nov 24 at 2 p.m.  Tallahassee Democrat

SPORTS NEWS

  • FAMU quarterback RJ Johnson III earned both SWAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week and BOXTOROW HBCU National Player of the Week awards for his four-touchdown game — three passing and one rushing — in a 26 to 23 win over Alabama A&M on Nov. 15. The Rattlers will play Bethune-Cookman at Camping World Stadium in Orlando at 3:30 p.m. this Saturday for his Florida Classic debut.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida High Seminoles beat Baldwin Indians 42—31 in a Class 2A quarterfinal playoff game on November 14, with quarterback Jayme Miller and running back Michael Jones leading the team. They will face the top-ranked Bolles Bulldogs in the regional semifinals soon.  Tallahassee Reports
  • ESPN's matchup predictor favors FSU in its next two road games, giving them a 69.6% chance to beat NC State on Nov. 21 and a 50.4% chance to win against the Gators on Nov. 29. The Seminoles won 34 to 14 over Virginia Tech on Senior Night at Doak Campbell Stadium and now need one more win to become bowl eligible + their play on the road remains a challenge.  Tallahassee Democrat
