  • Three Dog Bakery opened today on Mahan Drive and serves dog-friendly versions of popular bakery treats — the shop offers quality snacks for pet owners in Tallahassee.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tallahassee kicks off the holiday season with a series of local events as the Pat Ramsey and Missippi James Memorial Benefit is scheduled for November 22 at American Legion Hall and Pas de Vie Ballet will perform The Nutcracker on November 22 and 23—Noise Feast III offers a 36-hour music and art festival starting November 21 along with other community celebrations.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida State Open Publishing invites FSU faculty, staff and students to submit proposals for books, journals and textbooks that share research in open access. Proposals are due Dec. 1 and the program will work closely with authors to create projects that share ideas widely — a service led by FSU Libraries.  Florida State University
  • FSU’s Student Government Association Supreme Court ruled unanimously on November 10th that ForwardFSU is not liable for hazing charges—this decision has delayed the Student Senate inauguration. Siddharta Ojha will appeal the ruling to Dr. Amy Hecht as student leaders plan changes to the election process.  FSU News
  • FAMU President Marva Johnson completed her first 100 days on November 9 by focusing on stabilizing the university’s finances, increasing research efforts, and hiring key staff + improving initiatives like funding for the Marching 100 and athletic programs. She said listening to stakeholders and keeping her office door open helped set a clear path for student success and faculty support.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • The Leon County School Board elected Marcus Nicolas as chair and Darryl Jones as vice chair on Nov. 18 while reopening discussions to cut costs amid more than 6,000 empty student seats districtwide. Board members have considered leasing under-enrolled school spaces for a private pre-K program—plans they will explore further at workshops on Dec. 8 and during a January retreat.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Medicare changes set for 2026—jumping Part B premiums nearly 9.7% and Part A rising 3.6%—could cancel out the 2.8% Social Security cost-of-living raise that many Floridians rely on.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • On November 18th, the Leon County Commission approved a $1,168,352 contract to Arris General Contractors for improvements to the Big Bend Scenic Byway. The project, funded by FHWA and FDOT grants, will install kiosks, bench exhibits, signs, and approach markers along roads in Leon, Wakulla, and Franklin Counties — updates that aim to improve visitor safety and wayfinding.  Tallahassee Reports
  • Community members met at Watson Temple Church of God in Christ on November 18 to question Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare's fast sale to Florida State University and its board setup. Dr. Henry Lewis and other local leaders urged delaying the deal until full transparency and proper governance are ensured—raising concerns about historical inequities and patient care.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • South Tallahassee now has two new pharmacies after years without local options—Bond Community Health Center opened its remote pharmacy on November 12th and Big Bend Cares’ Care Point Center started weekday service on November 17th with plans for after-hours access early next year. This development restores local medication access for residents who had lost both CVS and Walgreens in recent years.  WFSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State soccer is set to face Lipscomb today at 2 p.m. at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C. The third-seeded team—fresh off a 4-0 win over Stanford—is on the road and will try to score early to advance to the Sweet 16.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State volleyball ended its three-match losing streak with a 3-2 win over Notre Dame on Nov 16—Filimaua and Henke led the team to improve its record to 14-11 overall and 8-8 in ACC play. The team will host home games against North Carolina on Nov 21 and Duke on Nov 23 as it chases a postseason spot.  FSU News
  • Florida A&M will face Bethune-Cookman in the Florida Classic this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, as the Rattlers hope to build on a recent two-game win streak and overcome key struggles by taking on the Wildcats’ strong passing attack on ESPN+.  Tallahassee Democrat
