ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents and firefighters surveyed the scene after an apartment building burned down at The Social Seminole on Ocala Road the night of Nov. 19—officials were assessing the damage—as the incident left the community in shock.  Tallahassee Democrat

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Entrepreneurs, students, and small business owners are gathering in Tallahassee for Impact Week at the Challenger Learning Center, a three day event featuring over 40 expert speakers and hands on workshops on topics including artificial intelligence and financial literacy. The conference also includes a pitch competition with 10 finalists and local sponsors—organizers expect it to strengthen business growth and networking in the community.  ABC 27
  • With Thanksgiving one week away on November 28, many Florida stores will have special hours as Bravo Supermarkets opens from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., The Fresh Market from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sprouts from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., and most Whole Foods from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.—in contrast, Publix, Walmart, ALDI, BJ's, Costco, Sam's Club, Target, Trader Joe's, and Winn-Dixie will close or use reduced schedules—while some CVS and Walgreens locations adjust their hours.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee now has Three Dog Bakery open on Mahan Drive that sells dog treats made with human-grade, natural ingredients—local franchisee Karin Racadio said she opened the shop after visiting a similar bakery in St Pete. Racadio plans a grand opening event early next year and will work with local rescue groups to support the pet community.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Caitlin Donalson at Washington Middle School was named Teacher of the Month by WCTV and Addition Financial. The award recognizes her strong teaching skills and is expected to benefit the local school community.  WCTV
  • Andrew Spar, president of the state's largest teachers union, said Gov. DeSantis and his education commissioner are at war with public schools as new laws limit classroom conversation and force charter schools to share public space—an approach he calls a hostile takeover. He warned that policies like the Phoenix Declaration contribute to a climate of fear and added more strain on teachers and students—putting Florida's education system at risk.  Tallahassee Democrat

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • FSU’s Elizabeth Swiman said that Thanksgiving food waste—estimated at 320 million pounds—is a major cause of methane emissions and wastes enough food for 267 million meals. Hal Gentile, assistant dean at the Food for Thought Pantry, said the pantry will offer free food and plan cooking demos to help students facing food insecurity.  Florida State University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Florida State travels to Raleigh to face NC State today as the Seminoles look to secure bowl eligibility and finish above .500. The team is boosted by key plays from Duce Robinson—while NC State aims to earn its sixth consecutive bowl game.  FSU News
  • FAMU volleyball will host the SWAC Tournament today at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee + the opening match against Prairie View A&M starts at 11:00 a.m. The eight-team tournament will conclude on November 23 + its champion will earn an automatic NCAA Division I bid.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Five Big Bend football teams remain in the FHSAA state playoffs and will play today at 7 p.m. in matchups from the Rural bracket to 3A — Chiles High played in the Florida Invitational on Nov. 20, and top first-round players showed strong skills at quarterback and running back.  Tallahassee Democrat
