- ➤ Several Tallahassee organizations, including the Oasis Center for Women + Girls, Kids Incorporated, Bond Community Health Center, Little Sunshine Pantries, and Second Harvest, are asking residents to donate toys, food, clothing, and funds this holiday season to help families facing hardship from paused SNAP benefits and rising living costs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two FSU professors are raising money for two international graduate students who lost everything when their apartment burned down last week at Social Seminole — the students had only lived in Tallahassee for three months— and they started a fundraiser to help pay for basic needs as the tight-knit department offers its support. - ➤ FSU students have raised concerns over Gen AI—arguing that its use in classrooms weakens learning, undermines academic integrity, and harms the environment. They warn that relying on the technology may lead to more plagiarism and reduce critical thinking skills. FSU News
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dry conditions have led several counties and cities—including Leon, Jefferson, Gadsden, Calhoun, Midway, and Bainbridge—to impose burn ban orders that restrict burning yard debris, campfires, and similar fires in Big Bend and South Georgia. Leon County will allow burns approved by the Florida Forest Service—other areas remain under full restrictions. ABC 27
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Andrew Koutnik, a scientist at FSU who has managed type 1 diabetes for 17 years, says that a low-carb ketogenic diet helped him lower blood sugar swings and cut his insulin needs—he now urges doctors to use nutrition more in diabetes care. - ➤ Florida State women's basketball lost 86—63 to Illinois Sunday at the Donald L. Tucker Center, falling to a 3—4 record as junior guard Sole Williams scored 18 points. The Seminoles will play Missouri State in the GEICO Coconut Hoops tournament in Fort Myers Friday. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida State soccer beat Georgetown 3-1 on Nov. 23 at Shaw Field in Washington, D.C.—Mimi Van Zanten scored a goal and helped with another to bring home the win.
