ECONOMY NEWS

  • Severe drought is affecting north Florida agriculture as peanut and cattle farmers in Jackson and surrounding counties report low crop yields and rising feed costs amid delayed winter planting & pending federal disaster assistance.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • According to the Florida Department of Revenue, taxable sales in Leon County grew 2.0% in September to $459.1 million, up by about $8.9 million compared to last year. Statewide sales tax revenues increased 4.65%.  Tallahassee Reports

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Florida Auditor General’s report on Tallahassee State College for 2024 revealed gaps in financial reconciliation & asset tracking, including discrepancies in bank balances and unverified property. The college is addressing these issues while disputing one finding.  Tallahassee Reports

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Lincoln Trojans remained unbeaten with a 54-46 win against Rickards on Dec.5. The team built an early lead with strong defense and balanced offense—highlighted by Malakhi Lowe's 15 points—ensuring their six-win streak continued.  Tallahassee Reports
  • FSU dropped its third straight game Saturday, losing 82-67 to No. 8 Houston at Toyota Center as turnovers cost the team key points. The Seminoles will meet UMass on Dec. 13 at Amerant Bank Arena to try and break the streak.  FSU News
  • Florida State football ended its season after declining a bowl invitation following a 40-21 loss to Florida. Coach Norvell is holding exit meetings and planning staff changes and transfers to rebuild the program.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Local high school wrestlers gathered at Florida High's Bob Albertson Gym for the eighth annual Cam Brown Classic on Dec. 7, marking eight straight years of competition.  WCTV
  • Tallahassee Reports ranked top high school golfers from Leon County this fall using (iWR) scores and stroke averages. Alex Parker of Chiles leads the list followed by Hunter Glantz of Florida High and Bryce Matthews of Lincoln.  Tallahassee Reports
  • FAMU's men's basketball team earned its first win of the season on Dec. 6 by beating Florida Memorial 60+58 at the HBCU Hoops Invitational in Orlando. Head coach Charlie Ward recorded his first win with the team and they will face Jacksonville at home on Dec. 17.  Tallahassee Democrat
