- ➤ WCTV will host its 12th annual Red Kettle Takeover Day at Walmart off Thomasville Road on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. to collect donations for the Salvation Army of Tallahassee + the funds will benefit local residents in Leon, Gadsden and Wakulla counties. WCTV
- ➤ Leon County school board member leads a toy & coat drive with local groups to help families in need put gifts under the tree this season. WCTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Four FSU math professors received over $500K in NSF grants this fall to design new methods for algorithms in biomedical imaging, AI, fluid dynamics, and geometric studies (supporting academic growth and outreach). They will also offer coding courses and host FSU Math Fun Day next February. Florida State University
- ➤ Ken Horne, a civics teacher at Montford Middle School, was named Leon County Schools Teacher of the Year on Dec. 8—his class saw district staff join his lesson for the announcement. He now competes for Florida Teacher of the Year with a chance at a $50,000 prize and other benefits. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Florida's State University System announced it will cut 18 degree programs mainly affecting bachelor’s studies (including African American and studio art) after reviewing graduation rates. Faculty and students worry that judging programs solely on degrees awarded may not capture their true impact. FSU News
- ➤ FSU awarded over $500,000 in seed funding to six translational research projects today in Tallahassee. The STRP program supports short-term, milestone-driven projects that help move research from the lab to the marketplace. Florida State University
- ➤ FSU is launching the nation’s first Community Music bachelor's degree program starting in fall 2026. Students will submit sample videos & complete interviews, and the program will partner with local arts organizations in Tallahassee for real-world experience. FSU News

- ➤ Florida State redshirt senior diver Kayleigh Clark earned her third ACC Women’s Diver of the Week honor on Nov. 24, marking a milestone in her comeback after two injury-filled seasons. She trains with her teammates ahead of the ACC Championships & aims to keep improving. FSU News
