- ➤ The Tallahassee Urban League will host a holiday celebration on Dec. 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at their home base on 923 Old Bainbridge Road, featuring gift giveaways for 50 families & live gospel entertainment along with free community resource information. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ On Wednesday afternoon, seniors at the Smith-Williams Service Center knitted warm gifts for dozens of kids at Riley Elementary, delivering hand-made hats & scarves for older students and mittens for kindergartners. WCTV

- ➤ Ashley Guy confirmed that all six Tallulah CBD locations will close by Dec. 31 — they may reopen under new ownership as state efforts continue to crack down on hemp and kratom compounds. Tallahassee Democrat

- ➤ FSU English faculty member Pablo Maurette earned the Herralde Novel Prize for his Spanish novel ‘El contrabando ejemplar’ — he is the first FSU faculty to receive this award, which offers 25,000 euros after a contest among nearly 900 submissions. Florida State University

- ➤ Pulitzer-nominated photojournalist Mark Wallheiser donated over two million archived photos to FSU Archives on Tuesday, April 30. University representatives began cataloging his decades-long collection to preserve local photographic history. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ FSU researchers received a $5M federal grant to create AI tools that help children with speech and language challenges talk more easily. The project will design new technology supports for playground interactions + reading skills in collaboration with engineers, educators, and AAC users. Florida State University
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Millions of Floridians face higher health insurance costs as enhanced ACA tax credits expire in two weeks, forcing families to choose between coverage and expense before the Jan. 15 deadline and February coverage start. - ➤ Gadsden County football player Daylen Green was named WCTV Scholar Athlete of the Week after a challenging season that tested his resolve — he signed with Florida State and will graduate high school with a 4.0 GPA, inspiring local youth to persist against adversity. WCTV
