  • Tonie Morgan, the Kentucky basketball star, teamed up with TNL Performing Arts today in Tallahassee + her effort supports local community programs that benefit residents.  WCTV
  • John Kraft, a Tallahassee veteran, recalled his return from Vietnam after an eight‑month deployment 55 years ago and noted that fewer than 1% of Americans now serve in the military; he urged locals to honor service members spending the holidays away from loved ones.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Twenty-one children from Joshua’s Promise enjoyed a surprise Christmas shopping spree provided by the Virgil Lee Family Foundation, which aimed to bring holiday joy & honor Virgil Lee’s memory. Each child was given a $230 spending limit during visits to local malls.  WCTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tallahassee Museum has welcomed two Binturongs (a male and a female) from Southeast Asia to its wildlife exhibit. They are known as bearcats for their looks and have a prehensile tail along with a unique scent (similar to buttered popcorn) as part of the display until the end of spring.  WFSU

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA predicts that 7.5 million people will travel in Florida this holiday season + roughly 250,000 more than last year. MIA recently opened a parking garage with 2,200 spots to help ease the rush as travelers prepare for the holidays.  CBS News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A Tallahassee law firm held a day-long Law and Leadership session for nearly 20 future attorneys on Dec. 21. The session (led by partner Marty Sipple) featured courthouse visits and discussions to give students a practical look at daily legal work.  WFSU

SPORTS NEWS

  • FAMU men’s basketball lost two games in Texas on Dec. 19 and Dec. 21 — ending a three-game winning streak and dropping to 3-7 under coach Charlie Ward, while the women’s team fell to West Georgia on Dec. 21 at home and remains winless.   • FSU men's basketball coach Luke Loucks received advice from mentor Leonard Hamilton and other trusted coaches to snap his five-game losing streak with a home win over Mississippi Valley State; today, his team will close nonconference play against Jacksonville at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center at 7 p.m.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee State College hosted the annual Capital City Classic on Dec. 20-21 — 12 teams from Big Bend and southern Georgia showcased strong athletic talent.  WCTV
  • FSU women's basketball snapped its five-game losing streak with an 89-41 win over South Carolina State at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center yesterday. Jasmine Shavers scored 29 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and the team will play at Syracuse on Jan. 1 at 6 p.m.  Tallahassee Democrat
