ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 27-year-old FSU student suffered severe burns when a fire broke out at the Social Seminole Apartment on Nov. 19 and died on Sunday, Dec. 28, according to his family. ABC 27
- ➤ Florida State University student Preet Harsoda died Dec. 28 after suffering severe burns in a Nov. 19 fire at The Social Seminole on Ocala Road (he underwent multiple surgeries at local hospitals). Tallahassee Democrat
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ USDOT data for Q2 shows that Tallahassee International Airport averaged a domestic fare of $558.07 — the highest among 15 major Florida airports — while travelers in nearby markets pay about $140 less on average. Tallahassee Reports
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ FWC reported that Florida’s first regulated black bear hunt in 10 years harvested 52 bears from 172 permits issued after rule amendments received public comment in August and November. The report noted enhanced law enforcement and hunter education ensured compliance (only one warning was issued). ABC 27
- ➤ The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission held the first black bear hunt in ten years, and hunters killed 52 bears from Dec. 6 to Dec. 28; officials said the data will help manage bear populations in the future. Tallahassee Democrat
- ➤ Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported 52 black bears harvested during this year's hunt season, with examination conducted by staff & bear response contractors. - ➤ Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare updated patients on Tuesday about a cybersecurity incident with Cerner that exposed additional records beyond those first notified in June. Impacted patients who received letters in June and December were offered free credit monitoring — and current care remained unaffected. WCTV
- ➤ Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare shared photos Monday evening of NICU babies wearing Florida State and FAMU gear and called them tiny Noles and Rattlers. The hospital said the outfits celebrated hope and community care for its smallest patients. WCTV
