CRIME NEWS

  • The Florida Lottery warns that it never calls to say you won—hang up immediately if you receive a call asking for fees or personal details and report the scam to the proper authorities.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • Leon High Choral Department will open Hairspray on June 26 at Leon High School with Gabriel Brown— a recent graduate who dreams of leading in lighting design— operating the light board. He will bring his theater tech experience to the production, which runs through July 6.  Tallahassee Democrat

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Florida universities may raise out-of-state tuition by up to 10 percent this fall — with a further increase possible in fall — after the state Board of Governors voted on the proposed rule. University boards must approve any hikes while keeping the current ratio of in-state to out-of-state students.  Tallahassee Reports
  • Alan Marshall, a trailblazing professor at Florida State University who led the MagLab’s FT-ICR Facility, died at age 81. He invented Fourier-transform ion cyclotron resonance — a technique now used in over 850 spectrometers — and mentored hundreds of students throughout his long career.  Florida State University

  • Air Methods opened its new air medical base in Wakulla County on June 4—designed as a flying ICU for enhanced emergency care—and officials said it will improve rapid response services in the region.  WCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • FAMU football head coach James Colzie III will host four summer camps starting Monday, June 23 at Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium—camps include a Big Man Camp for linemen, a Prospect Camp for high school players, a Youth Camp for children, and a second Prospect Camp on Friday, June 27. Registration fees are $40 for the Big Man Camp, $60 for each Prospect Camp, and $25 for the Youth Camp.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Florida State Seminoles football is considering four-star quarterback Jaden O’Neal for its 2026 class—he decommitted from Oklahoma and visited campus this week. The 6-foot-3 player is known for his strong arm, accuracy and mobility and may boost the team’s national ranking if he commits.  Tallahassee Democrat
