COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flea Market Tallahassee, a weekend tradition for 40 years, will close on July 27th after a January winter storm caused severe damage to vendor booths. The market’s owner, employees, and shoppers are very sad, and the Southside Storage area will remain open (vendors still get a 50% discount on rent) as plans for the site remain uncertain.  Tallahassee Democrat

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 47th annual Swamp Stomp Music Festival is set for Saturday, July 12 from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Tallahassee Museum — a local tradition since 1979. Local favorite Hot Tamale will perform swamp rock, bluegrass, and storytelling tunes — the festival will also offer living history displays, wildlife exhibits, and an aerial adventure course.  Tallahassee Democrat

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Leon County residents will see property taxes increase as the new preliminary tax roll sets a rate of 5.4% after market values rose nearly 5% from last year. Officials said housing supply has not met demand—so property values may keep rising until inventory improves.  Tallahassee Democrat

HEALTH NEWS

  • Taylor Roselong, a Tallahassee nurse who uses kickboxing to ease her depression and stress, said a 30-minute workout at 9Round kickboxing gym helps her feel better—owner Eric Friall added that the workout offers a physical and emotional release.  WCTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • FSU will start selling single-game football tickets on July 8 for booster members and on July 10 for the public ahead of its home opener vs. Alabama on August 30 at 3:30 p.m. Renovations to Doak Campbell Stadium are on track, and fans will enjoy the improved venue during the Seminoles’ seven home games this season — a move that aims to boost team spirit and safety.  Tallahassee Democrat
  • Tallahassee Reckoning played their first playoff game on Saturday night and lost 3—1 to Asheville City SC when the opponents scored three quick goals in the first half—Zamiyah Hill scored in the second half for the Reckoning.  WCTV
  • Local football legends Dameon Pierce and LeGarrette Blount returned to their hometowns on Saturday to host inaugural youth football camps for community youth—offering young athletes a chance to learn from experienced players.  WCTV
