- ➤ People filled Maclay Gardens on Saturday for a community fun day that brought first responders and individuals with autism together to learn how best to handle emergencies. The Leon County Sheriff’s Office and FSU Card (Center for Autism and Related Disabilities) organized the event where kids enjoyed free treats and games, and officers learned strategies to support those with sensory needs. - ➤ The Florida Sheriffs Association is building a $24 million youth education center on Mahan Drive near its Tallahassee headquarters to improve relations with young people and encourage law enforcement careers. The two-story, 22,000 square foot center with a 67-seat theater and interactive exhibits will be finished within two years—following a groundbreaking ceremony on July 11. WFSU
- ➤ County sheriffs gathered at the Florida Sheriffs Association headquarters in Tallahassee on Friday to break ground on a new $24 million youth center — the two story building will include a theater with 67 seats, interactive displays, a 2100 square foot library and high-tech training tools.
