CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jury foreperson Jacey Maxson-Walker told on TikTok that the 12-member jury convicted Donna Adelson for the 2014 murder of Dan Markel—she said evidence like Rob’s testimony and a wiretap clip was key—and that they all voted guilty. Tallahassee Democrat
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, a federal appeals court panel blocked a judge’s order to wind down operations at a state-built immigrant detention center in the Everglades, keeping the facility known as Alligator Alcatraz open—Gov. DeSantis praised the ruling while environmental groups and the Miccosukee Tribe continue legal challenges. The ruling will let Florida resume sending detainees to the center as the legal fight over compliance with environmental review continues. Tallahassee Reports
- ➤ The FDOT sent a letter on June 30 ordering all painted crosswalks to be removed by Sept. 4 and local leaders in Tallahassee say this rule harms projects that use art to keep streets safer and more colorful—such as the Crosswalks to Classrooms project—by cutting creative designs that help kids cross safely. - ➤ On Friday night, Chiles ended a 17-game losing streak by beating Wakulla 23-21—an 85-yard touchdown from a blocked field goal shifted the game. The Timberwolves improved to a 2-1 record while Wakulla fell to 1-2 as penalties hurt its scoring. Tallahassee Democrat
